Pere Lachaise Cemetery is big. I mean really, really big. Good thing I'd met my own private tour guides (two British couples) whose mission it was to locate Jim Morrison''s grave. Although you are handed a map when you enter, it's impossible to follow, as I later discovered. One of the Brits had turn by turn instructions though, and we finally found the Holy Grail of rock fans. Not fancy, and wedged amongst other, more imposing monuments, it would be easy to miss except for the flowers and candles and graffiti - and the small crowd of people! While there are plenty of other notables buried at Pere Lachaise, and the map points to their location, they proved impossible to find. I stumbled across a fresh bouquet on the marker for Simone Signoret and Yves Montand though (yes, they were even before MY time, so a lot of people have probably never heard of them).
The temperature reached 27 that afternoon, so I'd chosen a good day to cruise Canal St. Martin, made famous in the movie Amelie. Spent a pleasant 3 hours moving through a series of locks beneath the arching trees and bridges watching the crowds lining the shore.

At the Bastille - start of the canal is through a long, dark tunnel |

So many people enjoying the sun, eating and drinking wine - remind why we can't do this in Canada?? |
